Highlands, NC – It’s been a slow start for the Maroon Devils Soccer program this year. Yesterday the Devils traveled to Highlands for a match that proved to be a tough loss. Highlands has been a dominating force in the Smoky Mountain Conference for a several years.
During the first half, Highlands had 14 shots on goal and found the back of the net 1 time. Swain had 6 shots on goal, a couple just barely missing their mark. The half ended with a score of 1-0.
Highlands started the second half with a quick counter making the score 2-0. Swain continued to play hard. Swain had 13 shots on goal and Highlands had 9 shots on goal during the second half. 7 out of the 13 Swain attempts were inside of the 18.
“We just couldn’t catch a break. ” says Coach Parton. “When we missed, we barely missed. When they countered, they put it in.”
The gamed ended with a score of 4-0.
“The score is not a good reflection of how well Swain is playing.” says Coach Parton. “Highlands is always a good team and they capitalized on our mistakes. We are young, but we are improving every game.”
